Welcome to the wiki for the UKnow4Kids Live CD, a Linux distribution compiling
educational and gaming software for children 2-
to 10-years-old. Here, I will post journal entries and news about the distribution. Feel free to post comments and questions, and I'll get to them as soon as I can (3-4 days at most).
UKnow4Kids is intended for broad usage by
a non-technical audience (regular parents). Because UKnow4Kids
runs as a "live CD," no installation or configuration is required
(unless you really want to), and it is essentially indestructible
for children's use (no danger of losing your electronic tax
files). UKnow4Kids also runs run well on the oldest Intel
hardware, so it should run fine on any computer better than a Pentium
II with 256 MB RAM (that's what my kid uses). UKnow4Kids provides
a familiar
Windows-like/Mac-like user experience, requiring only minimal computer
experience to run.
UKnow4Kids can be used by a child alone or in partnership with the
caregiver.
